    Prolific Tamil Writer Sundara

Prolific Tamil Writer Sundara Ramaswamy passed away last week. See blogposts on Tamil blogs by Badri, Venkat amd Boston Balaji. More than his famous JJ Sila Kuripugal, I enjoyed Oru Puliyamarathin Kathai just for its sheer usage of the sweet Thirunelvelli Thamizh. I had to read JJ Sila Kuripugal twice, to get understand it completely. His contribution to the smal magazines, by being the publisher of Kalachuvadu is a huge service to tamil literature. If interested, do check out some books by Sundara Ramaswamy .

Blogger Arun Vaidhyanathan’s short film Thaniyoru Manidhanukku gets selected to IAAC Film Festival in Indian Independent & Diaspora Films section. Do send an email to Arun and he would provide info about the screening. Good Luck, Arun !!

Desikan had pointed to two amazing columns written by Ashokamitran and Raa Ki Rangarajan. While Ashokamitran’s anecdote was short sweet and made me feel a little sad, Raa Ki’s wish made me feel guilty.

Praveen has a nakkal review on Ghajini here. A commenter Bijoy Bharathan on Hemanth’s blog leaves a list of inspirations for Ghajini[Scroll down to read his comment]. Even if we may not accept to his views, his scene comparisons to hollywood films seems almost right.

Sri Hari gets to watch Anurag Kashyap’s Black Friday. I am totally envious of him because of the ban and the hype that surrounds it.

Did you read the humongous book called The Suitable Boy. Then you are to like Vikram Seth and his interview to Outlook. After a long long time, he is back with a book called Two Lives which he says was from a story line that his mom told. Seems like a semi-biographical book on his Uncle and Aunt. Why is Aamir Khan excited about Vikram’s latest book ?

Meet SJ Surya – The Sultan of Sleaze !!

Finally, how did I miss it. Belated Happy Birthday Babe !! Enna b’day gift from AnbuChelvan?

    [Pic – IndiaGlitz]

Mani Ratnam’s seemandaputhran Nanda, his mom Suhasini and Suhasini’s Chitappa Kamal Hassan share a light moment in the Illayaraja’s live concert.

Nanda – Enga Appa Padathila Nadikamaatreenga. Neenga nejamaavey nallavara ? kettavara ?.
Kamal – Theriliyepaa. Aana unnoda first padathila kandippa naan thaan hero.
Nanda – Thoda !! Mudhalla Kaiya Vidunga. Naan success padam edukalaamnu irukken. Neenga vera !!

P.S – Illayaraja’s seems to have rocked the Chennai concert. Those who missed it, have a glance, like me.

P.P.S – India Glitz has a copyright information on their site, which I bumped on only today. It reads, Copyright 2005 IndiaGlitz. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed. So I think we (read I) should restrict using their photos from now on. We need an copyright-less kollywood site and whoever knows one, leave a note. Will start using the pictures from there and extend with a huge support. I am also planning to write to India Glitz to allow me use their pictures.

    Word Pressed !!

Recieved an invite from WordPress.com to setup a blog in WordPress hosted site. This is the WordPress version of Blogger and MT’s Typepad. So you can use the Word Press interface to maintain your blog while it will be hosted by WordPress, free of cost. Atleast now, they are sending invites for free Word Press hosting. Not sure what their plans are, as of yet.

I used my invite to create a blog, lazygeek.wordpress.com, to feel out WP hosting. Very similar to Blogger/Typepad, the WP hosting have a set templates from which you can choose from and do some minor changes. I don’t think they still have a method to import posts. That would be a wonderful option to allow people to move from other service. But seems like they are in the testing mode and when they open up, there will be many takers.

    Warning – This post may

Warning – This post may not have any sense of direction. I’m just wanting to pour out a few things and hence may sound like a rant. You might want to stop reading here. I’m positive. You’re not missing anything.

Once upon a time, I was thinking the only joy in the world was reading. Slowly movies started octopusing my life. Reading was a joy even then. Now, there are just too many interests and as one quote goes, “It’s only the human who complicates his own life”.

While there is so much to read, I’m starting to feel embarassed when I realize, that I’m typing more than what I read. As Internet expands, the information overload increases and you don’t feel at ease when don’t catch up with the online world even for a day. For that matter, Ignorance is the biggest bliss. Earnestly, I’m trying to get back to the world of books without any interupption to my love of online world. I’m trying to pay equal attention but it sucks. With a lovely, confronting techie job in the day and the few hours that I get to surf the web in the night, my reads have reduced to a unit of tenth. The pile of books that I want to read but haven’t, keep increasing. Especially reading fiction has reduced to zero and I think I’ve lost the innocence to read fiction. For someone who had tried to read as many Wodehouse or Chase as possible, sitting through even Da Vinci Code seems tough now. Though Da Vinci Code follows some of the tried-n-tested methods of thriller fiction, I felt there was nothing big that was going to happen. That zest to complete it wasn’t quite there.

As the blog world is fights a worthy war, here is me fighting a different war to shut myself and read a book in a strech. Let’s see, if I can do that. Will update more , but for now, back to books.

    Saturday Blues !!

Bellevue and Redmond (yeah !! the same Microsoft Redmond) are like twin towns nearly overlapping each other set to the east of Seattle. Supposed to be one of the most pricey communities in & around Seattle, which I was oblivious to until I found myself paying rent through my nose. My community, near an array of Microsoft offices is one the picturesque place.

Was driving in the early morning to Redmond. It was drizzling just like any other day in Seattle. The fall colors seems to come out fast and you could spot the whole spectrum from light yellow to bright red leaves. Combined with the wetness due to rain and the bright fall colors, it seemed like a picture postcard shot. Coming from India, anyone would be awestruck by the colors and ofcourse the rain. Though I’ve travelled in a ferry to see the Washington Island fall colors, in Illinois, this morning it was a revelation. Just taking an ‘U’ turn from the home, I could see the dazzling fall colors. Seattle is partly a heaven. Once I visit California I would agree another part of ‘delicious’ heaven is out there. I suddenly remember, Illayaraja singing, Athu Nammoru Pola Varumaa. What a paradox ?
