Kamal Hassan’s Mumbai Express

Mumbai Express Kamal and Manisha

After the comical Vasool Raja MBBS, it’s Kamal’s turn to care for a movie for himself. And this formula of one-mass-movie-one-class-movie has been continuing for some time now[except for Panchathanthiram following PKS]. Expectedly, Kamal Hassan pens the story/screenplay and packs bag to board Mumbai Xpress.

Mumbai Express is said to be a family entertainer and will be directed by the veteran Singeetham Sreeenivasa Rao. As remarked by Kamal himself Singeetham and KamalHassan, though generations apart by age, have a great chemistry between them that makes this duo an interesting combo. As Kamal is tight-lipped about the story line, it makes me speculate that the movie could be of the genre of Anbe Sivam where the classy theme was mixed in propotion with the comedy.

When the bi-lingual Mumbai Xpress was announced publicly on his birthday, there weren’t many details to decipher the feel of the movie. Now with Kamal Hassan engaging Manisha Koirala on the lead role and having illayaraja to tune it’s getting a lot clearer. The tamil train will include Nasser, Ramesh Aravind and Pasupathi while the Hindi express will have Om Puri and Mahesh Manjirekar.

Here’s the link to Hindu’s article on this. BTW, who comes to your mind after you see this new makeover of Kamal Hassan ? It reminds me of Bally Sagoo.

UpdateMumbai Xpress Flash teaser here at Kumudam explains all. Kamalhassan sits on the top of a Dharavi hut and talks about the democracy in Mumbai city. Also say his nick name is Mumbai Xpress, original name is Avinashi. Another interesting character, a horse is named as Baazigar. Must Watch.

  1. For a second, I saw the picture in the newspaper this morning and I thought it was Simran acting with Kamal Hassan again. There’s still a trace of Vasool Raja make-over remaining. It’s been really long since we had the classic, ‘Michael Madana Kamarajan’, so I hope it’s something on those lines.

  2. The film looks intriguing, Kamal as usual has done something quite wild to his face, but its suits him well. Manisha has supposedly been given a very meaty role, so lets see how she turns out. Singeetham is reknown and great. It should be a brilliant movie, the only thing is Im getting quite worried about Kamal’s ever growing stomach.

  3. Aaaha. Thalaivar padam. Superb! By the way Kamal was supposed to act in a movie called KG (directed by gautham. Some cop thriller movie like kurudhipunal).
Wish this movie is a kamal experiment movie and not a comedy movie.

  4. His look in Panchathanthiram was somewhat like this.. And why does Manisha look like Simran?! 🙂

That’s the difference between a Kamal n a Vijay. Take any song of Vijay’s, mute the music, blur out the heroine, and u’ll be left scratching ur head trying to guess what movie it is.

  7. Is Kamal playing role of deaf and dumb guy in the movie. Looking at Manisha’s facial expression I felt so 🙂

  8. On looking at this Kamal’s look, I thought of the “Woh chali” song guy, of the group Bombay Vikings. But yes, he does look like Bally Sagoo too.

Probably he is trying out a Mumbai “Tapori”, who might need a lil’ “weight” ;D

  21. Kamal has fallen into the trap which almost all ‘actors’ who have made it go through…..Beleive in everything they do is right. Our man needs critics around him and Not put him in a pedestal which he is normally raised to. Our man was shooting in Mumbai when Dec 26th Tsunami ravaged our beloved Nadu.
Take a leaf out of Vivek Oberoi who camped thro’ weeks near Cuddalore. Thats Chennai Express from Mumbai and not the other way
