Writer Sujatha, a writer-par-excellence, reiterates about his life, the people, the writers, the books and the incidents that influenced him/his writings in this quintessential interview to Kumudam’s Theeranadhi. You need a userid/pwd to login.
He details his writing experience without any pretensions and also accepts that many of his good stories were written in an urgency to publish. He expatiates, ‘Stories which I planned to write in leisure were never written. I needed that urgency. It was like how Pudumai Piththan needed an urgency. He probably knew that he would not live for long and hence wrote tons before he died‘. Also his distinction between good and popular writing shows the profound writer he is.
For a die-hard Sujatha fan like me, this detailed interview is a piece of rare literature for this interview will become a part of the Writer Sujatha‘s biography in the future to come.
As he mentions, one of his very detailed interview was to a magazine called Padigal (Steps). Incidentally, I have a copy of that interview which I collected from the famous old book shop in Luz, Mylapore. If anyone is interested to glance it through, send me an email and I can pass it on.

Srirangathu Kathaigal – this is different from srirangathu devathaigal – right?
Had anyone seen that TV serial – I bet it was bad ……..

Yeah, Srirangathu Kathaigal is a series of stories which he wrote for ananda vikatan, a year back.
Srirangathu Devadhaigal was written sometime back. it details about sujatha’s stay in srirangam, not directly but in a fictionary manner.
i am not sure if S.K was made into a teleserial.

Some more info on Srirangathu Devadhaigal / Kathaigal from Desikan :
earlier SD was written as a series of short stories in ‘Savy’ tamil magazine ( in 1980’s). Later in 2003 it was continued in
AV. Between 1980 – 2003 Sujatha has written some more SD in various magazines like kanayazhi, amudasurabi, kalaimagal etc., I told Sujatha
that I have all these stories and I consolidated all of them in the book Srirangathu Kathigal. Even there were some stories written before
1980 which went into the Srirangathu Kathigal book.

I did see “Srirangathu Devadhaigal”. I think it was some 6 or 7 yrs back on DD. But then,it was PATHETIC!!!the book was soo amusing ,but the way they converted into telescreen was Horrible!
Btw, which of the “Srirangathu Kadhaigal” u ppl like?? I like “Thinna” and the recent one named “Manju”.I think SK and “Madhyamar” series were his best,classy STUFF! but then, the so-called “serious writers” consider Him as a pulp writer!!ask them to go to hell!He is my Hero!
and i think that “Padigal” interview was in the book “Vivadhangalum Vimarsanangalum”. it is one of his select few detailed interviews. the other one was the “Subhamangala” interview. Anybody has that copy of “subhamangal ” interview????
