Sify reports that the second coming together of Gautam & Surya may not happen. Looks like their Chennayil Oru Mazhai Kaalam is dropped. Gautam gets to direct Kamalhassan on his next venture and Surya gets to act in a Bala’s production.
The teaser pics of Chennayil Oru Mazhai Kaalam looked near perferct with Surya – minus moustache + a guitar + extraordinary lighting. It’s a sure shot miss.
Update: The Co-Blogging Series World Themes for Indian Cinema marches forward in the Guest Blog. A well written commentary on the Broadway edition of AR Rahman’s Bombay Dreams by Ashok Rajamani is also up there.

Gautam, i always felt, was a pretty average director..Yeah, KK had loads of style but still it was an Okie Dokie movie – surely not in the same league as Mani “God” Ratnam.. Good for Surya !!

I am not sure how good it is for Surya. It is mentioned in the article that the director of his next movie is going to be Singamouli of “RED” fame.

Sorry for this offtopic comment.
Visiting after really some time.
Reason : Watched the movie ‘Autograph’ and really fell in love with it. Wondered if you had written something about it. Found none.

Gautam might not be a great storyteller but he has a panache in departments of screenplay & direction. One of Mani-inspried movielover, who went a mile ahaed to make something different.

Most important, Gautam is far ahead of most of the directors in attending to even the minutest details. He is one of the best in scene continuity of a film. If you watch KK closely, you would agree with me.

At least KK had some sense of purpose and urgency whereas his “Minnale,” IMHO, was total crap…of course, girls will disagree with me…Amen:)
