Gilli‘s superhit song Appidi Podu is emerging as this year’s Manmatha Rasa. Topping the charts in all the countdowns, it is creating rockers in kollywood. Though it would be an exaggeration to call this as equivalent to the Manmatha Rasa fame, Appidi Podu is the hum-of-the-mouth in chennai.
On an another note, I was watching Muthey Muththamma song from Ullasam in KTV yesterday. Just noticed that what a great singer we have in Kamalhassan. Especially they way he has huskily sung this song reminds me of what I felt while I heard Shankar Mahadevan‘s Sandana Thendralai from Kandukondain Kandukondain. It had the same fervour and passion. Karthick Raja had earlier told in an interview that it was real tough to make Kamal agree to sing this song.
I can’t imagine someone singing this song except for Kamalhassan. He is one hell of a singer, unexploited.

I agree, Guru. That was our (my brother’s and mine) favourite at the time. His voice modulation is excellent in the song and it revealed a whole new Karthik Raja to the world!!

Agree with raapi. I simply hate Appadi podu. Felt that Trisha couldnt dance to save her life, and the song per se was extremely mediocre stuff. Wonder how many people feel its really hum-of- the-mouth calibre like Lazy does.

Appadi poodu is ok. Manmatha raasa is in a league of it’s own.

Raapi, You can’t be an elitist alone. sometimes looking only for classy stuff we tend to miss these gems. again, thats’s my opinion. in my opinion, manmatha rasa is a very cheap song. just gyrating hips and a lean heroine for it. it had nothing more. but people liked. what can be done about it.
appidi podu is a pretty good song if you see it unbiased. if you either hate vijay/trisha/commercial cinema, then you might not like this song. trisha has danced much better than other songs. maybe in those small nuances, she does better. and the feel of the song is very different from original ones. it isn’t a normal song. it isn’t extraordinary too. but it has a good tempo and intelligent choreography.
a majority of people have agreed on it and hence you can people request these songs in countdowns.
like manmatha rasa people have voted appidi podu and theatres are dancing for it.

Satellite TV channels have catalysed in making “Appadi podu” popular! Overdose!!!
Not only in Chennai, its all over TN and even in Kerala, that the song hum’s in ppl’s lips.

eww I just watched this song for the first time and what is tamil people’s taste coming to? I mean are these the same people who appreciated ARR’s music or has something radical happened? Manmatha Rasa and now this…I can see where this trend is going.
