I was surprised when my friend called me this early morning and asked me if I was looking at the newspaper. Not the English dailies he said but the Tamil ones. He dropped the happy bomb too. See it, a surprise awaits you.
I knew it was coming. There were talks all over the last week about it. It was said to be on 4th. I was awaiting it but I never knew it could be one day before. It rained all over yesterday and today morning. So I biked against the drizzles to the newspaper mart only to find that Rajini has announced his new film Jaggubhai. Ravikumar had announced last week that he would be directing Rajini’s next flick and so he does. But AR Rahman back on the tunes and Jeeva on the angles have certainly impressed me to the core. I am sure Jeeva can pitch in a lot with his experience.
This move of Rajini announcing his new movie Jaggubhai is certainly very dramatic. For a complete Rajini Fan like me, it is refreshing news. But when I look at with an outsider view, it is dramatic in all the angles. Especially during this moment when Rajini’s integrity gets beaten up by the media and the political arena, this move of Rajini balances him as level-headed. Still it is very dramatic pre-dominantly because Tamil Nadu is set to vote in just one week and the opinion polls suggest DMK / Congress sweeping across the state.
Having been an all-time fan of Rajnikanth films, I was definitely not convinced by his off late call for democratic opposition against the PMK. Rajini who was expected to be refreshing change in the political arena shouldn’t be seen as someone who is involving his fans for a personal benefit. Though I am sure it wasn’t his intention, it was projected by the media and he was forced to do it.
On the promos Rajini poses like a muslim/hindu with a gun beside him sitting in an odd pose. This oddness isn’t new for Rajini. When I saw the first ad of Basha on the same paper, I felt it. The name was very odd. Continuing the same oddity of name was Padayappa. I was thinking that Basha would fail miserable for the name itself. But both Padayappa and Basha proved in the Box-Office as the most successsful movies.
For the hunger stricken media, this odd costume and the pose, inclusive of the name will be a dream come true news. In the next few weeks, Jaggubhai will occupy the first pages and screens of most of the media. Jaggubhai’s news will be bitten, chewed and eaten by the every available media till they over expose the film and it’s cast. I only hope Rajini plays safe this time with the media and makes sure he feeds them well, else the hype would be blown enough that the bubble bursts soon after it’s created.

Hah,KG good observation..only good thing is Rahman’s music..let’s see,what he is going to do?,Rahman offlate is facing serious problems,after messing up CBSO symphony,his Broadway edition of ‘Bombay Dreams’ gets thrashed by critics as a tasteless show.Hoping the man to recover,to bounce back and give us something great..expecting his ‘Lord of the Rings’,and this one(Jagubhai) too gives some hope.

hey…i agree…when i first saw the title ‘rajini avatars..’ and the pic i really thought someone did a photoshop on osama bin laden with a rajini photo!
it kinda puts me off…the name and the pic that is…considering i just started the day watching annamalai…ARR back on the tunes doesnt convince me as much since i would prefer a srikanth deva kind of tune for a rajini movie not anything peppy like a yuvan’s or a symphony orchestrated piece from ARR (not matter how good it is i am sure ravikumar’s going for a mass entertainer not an art film award)
well thats my piece…if its jaggubhai then all the best for it to be a padayappa 2 or whatever ravikumar and rajini have in mind.

Rahman knows his customer very well,so he will deliver the stuff accordingly…something like an upbeat song sung by S.P.B for Rajini’s intro.I definetely think that its a Photoshop work,Rajini would have just decided that appearance and his ad ppl would have made that poster i think,Do you think its original?..as Ravages say it doesn’t look like him at all.

Ayya (at least the name) was dropped mainly cos Dr.Ayya is what the PMK cadres supposedly call Dr.Krishnaswamy..
And…I just hope Thalaiver does not incl. any of his own personal philosphies like he did in Baba…
As for ARR, he has given us a couple of awesome signatures for ARR e.g. Oruvan Oruvan from Muthu. Regardless of Baba, I am sure this venture will add to the Rajini aura.

today’s hindu daily remarks it as a story of a terrorist called jaggu who gets smoothened in life by a maharastrian spiritual lady called Shantha Chakkubhai.
if this is the story outline, something doesn’t sound well. but heck we also shouldn’t be making guesses about the story. let’s give ravikumar a chance to think unlike what they did to suresh krishna in Baba.

aNTi, the cap he wears looks like the one worn by some north Indian Hindus(guess Marathi’s).
Muslims wear round kinda caps, whereas this looks more like the old-congress cap.

If the story is as mentioned in The Hindu,..it appears as glorifying Hindutva.Why not make a movie like Muthu,Padaiyappa to satisfy his fans rather than indulging in such Religious topics.Already Baba was pathetic with its tepid storyline..let’s c.

Hey at last there comes RAJNI movie. For a rajni fan like me it is like a festival day. Thalaivar pic is very odd and very much daring. However rajni should keep BABA in mind and work out the film. We can trust Ravikumar for a good story. AR.Rehman should do well to level himself. The film should satisfy every people. Im very much refreshed by seeing in pic of JAGGUBHAI. Lets wait and see him.

Eventhough i am replying late on this forum… like our thalaivar “Lateaa Vandhalum Latestaa Varuvaen”.
I was also stunned & felt so happy when i saw the ad in the newspaper that morning. i was so happy that i all most felt like it was my birthday.
For all those stupid fans of other actors & who are all crying to be the next SuperStar, they r going to shut their mouths after this movie smashes all the hits.
As of now i am praying for this movie to come up atleast twice as good as Padayappa was. All I want is our thalaivar to be Happy once again.

It is high time rajini leaves kollywood…Look at Amithab..old yet going strong. His movies are so different and he looks very charming. All his roles are heroic but he does not run around trees and dance with his heroines. C’mon when is rajini going to learn from him.
Even his fans would have agreed wat kind of Flop movie is BABA. Rajini do not need to fight with Vikram, vijay or surya do be in Number 1 spot. Do good roles like kamal and amithab.’

he is already planned to make BABA as his last movie, he even mentioned it indirectly thru the title song and the climax that his next place is politics or retirement
but he want to make sure baba to be superhit to save his superstar status in history
however, unexpectedly, the movie crash, even the samiyar who blessed rajini and tell the date of release died of heart attack after seein baba; so, now he is very very confused and afraid to make next movie, but he will surely will make a movie but maybe in 3 years time,,, that would be either in 2005 or 2006,, till then, just dont bother to wait,,, fed up to wait – LATEST IRUNDTHALUM,, ROMBA LATE TAH IRUKUDEH!
