Mementoed !!

ghajini

Now you know why they said it could be Memento. Anyway, seems like Gajini aka Ghajini would be out by 29th. Not just us, even the Hindu is waiting for Gajini. Check out IndiaGlitz’s Ghajini website. Don’t miss the trailer that explains it all.

Alongwith Murugadoss and Surya there are Kakkha Kakkha fame cinematographer RD Rajasekar and Editor Antony to add value. All the best team !!

  1. Lazy, I guess too much of QA has gone into my head, so bear with me on this one. Why are (some of) the clues written for us i.e. not for the mirror or upside down, for easy look up. Maybe he too got Lazy 😉

Anyways, coming over to Fremont for the show?

  2. although the shortermmemory loss part, and the taking revenge because someone killed his wife part was copied from memento, hopefully there are other things that can make the movie fun to watch. the thing that makes me mad is that on suntv, murgadoss said that he made the story, and he has made the screenplay different, but he lied, as it is very much copied from memento.

  3. Not pinning too many hopes on this one, as I guess Murugadoss is gonna sit back, relax and explain the whole stuff after every ‘confusing’ sequence. Though, I was a little impressed that such worthy stuff is being attempted, when I saw “all for love” at the end of the trailer, it really put me off! And guys, what do you think are the chances that the movie is gonna be in reverse chronological order as the original?
and Hemanth, for all we know, may be Surya reads it directly (meaning without standing in front of mirror)!

  4. Sri hari, Bare minimum it should be in reverse chrono order else there is no point in even taking a movie like memento. but it has to carefully explained without confusions.

if the reverse chrono isn’t used then all the short memory stuff is all humbug.

  6. Lazy, I would have accepted that explanation, had the words been written in Thamizh. When it’s written in English, I will not 🙂

Zero, the chances of reverse-chronology – Zero. No Tamil Producer will let his Director shoot that high.
On the other hand, I’m willing to bet that the film will start in Kaaka Kaaka style, show the end (how Memento begins) then quickly disolving into a flashback (the old ‘Gandhi’ method). Let’s see…

  7. Lazy, I don’t think the movie is gonna be in reverse chrono. And Memento kinda offers enough interesting material even without reverse chrono (though some of the dramatic twists might not be reproduced) and I guess Murugadoss should have been content with that.
The possibility I see is the the dramatic twists will all be put together in one flashback thus structuring the movie in such a way that the flashback resolves mysteries we had seen since the beginning of the movie.

  8. Hey Lazy:
From what Suriya told me, it is Memento told straight with Tamil commercial masala and sans the backwards structure.
And here’s some more goss, mite disappoint you a little since u seem to expect the world out of Selvaraghavan.
Pudupet is rumoured to be inspired by City of God. Going by the stills, Im more than convinced.
And City of God is certainly among the best films ever made! So he cant goof up if he sticks to it faithfully and makes it totally local tho i doubt if the ending of the original wud work here.
So there, this film im sure wud tell us if this young director really lives up to the attitude he throws around.
And talking of tributes, I heard Cheran’s next is loosely based on ‘Cinema Paradiso.’ If thats true indeed, I wanna start a script shop! Cuz, there really seems to be a dearth of original scripts!

  9. Suderman,
I sure thought Cheran must have been inspired by “Cinema Paradiso” when it was said his next movie was called “Touring Talkies” (however much I thot Cheran is too ‘Tamilian’ to go for foreign inspirations; still i think his interpretation will be more of the rural setup a la ‘Azhagi’ than ‘Cinema Paradiso’)! Well, that was just a guess. Hope, thr rumour u were talking also was not a result of a guy like me guessing wild that “Cinema Paradiso” could be the inspiration!
And as for Pudhupet, I knew it had to be a gangster flick; but thot inspirations would pour in from our own bollywood, rather than “City of God” (for that matter, there was a running rumour that AE was based on “City of God” too)..

  10. Suderman, Thanks for that rumors. but i’m totally put off now that City of God might be Pudupet. I love City of God for its brilliant script and picturisation. One of the best film i’ve seen.

Zero, AE base premise was Amoreos Perros. City of God had influences in Inba’s character but it wasn’t ripped from COG.

And for your Info, Kiruba once said me that Autograph was flicked scene by scene from an italian movie. since then i’m looking out for cheran to flick an european movie. i cant stand it !!

  11. I guess you dint get my point.. I was recalling that there were some baseless rumours like this even before – AE being inspired by “City of God” and stuff. In fact, I don’t even buy the idea of Inba’s character coming from “City of God” to some extent, unless one attributes the typical indie/energetic/non-Hollywood (or European, for that matter) look that AE possesses to “City of God”.. I was real surprised by ur clarification abt AE!

Abt Cheran, somehow the first thing that struck me when I heard of “Touring Talkies” was “Cinema Paradiso”.. but I always thot he ll tamilianize it to such an extent that it will bear no finer aspects of the original. And was Autograph flicked from some European movie? Hmmm..

  12. Srihari, Sorry didn’t get what you meant. you are on my camp 🙂 Thanks.

But again personally when I saw COG I thought it had shades of Inba’s character rather other way round. But i felt it.

well,i have watched the movie as i’m in the editing commitee

its definately the best movie of the year

except for the song picturisation…everything else seems very very good

    rating by our commitee: A-

at least it was way better than Anniyan unlike what Sify wrote…(the commitee congralulated shankar for delivering a movie with a strong social message—-sify wrote those)

  14. I dont know if we can associate Pudhupet to City of God by just looking at that picture, although it does look very similar to City of God. COG was an excellent movie, but Idoubt Selvaraghavan was inspired by that, i hope not.

CP is a very nostalgic film, and seems right up Cheran’s alley. Maybe Cheran is making a film in which nostalgia and cinema-going are combined (Indians can relate to this theme), possibly with CP influences or lifts.
