Writer Sujatha‘s blog(thanks to desikan for that trivia), Katrathum Petrathum, in Ananda Vikatan is up for it’s third serving, two weeks back.
For those who have read Sujatha‘s previous two series of Katrathum Petrathum, would know what to expect. So expectedly in the current issue, he blogs about the concept of blogging and compares it to the handwritten magazines, which was a concept in yester years. He say it is for that fifteen minute fame, bloggers all over, write and wait.
While talking about writing for the web, he says it is the frozen permanency that makes web an amazing medium for writing. So whatever written now, can also be searched and read by any single man even after 50 years and it’s that longevity of writing that makes the web a viable medium for writing to prosper.

I am not so sure about the longevity of the contents in net.It is dependent very much on server`s life..!!!!. SO I am not able to buy sujatha`s SAASWATHAM on net.
I was also there during the uyirmmai function when he quoted it.It sounded fine on first hearing.But thinking about it now, the greatest benefit on being in net is “accessible from anywhere in the world “.
People host sites,blogs from different part of world and servers.What is the guarantee that all the webservers would be mainyained in the future do.. Net itself is not 50 years old.. so projecting things 50 years down the line ,i guess is not practical.
But as on today ,if u host/upload something, people from all over the world with net connection can see it/read it.I agree with that broad reach…

Mani, It’s an assumption that the servers exist and I pay money for the servers.
I am able to also agree with your point of availability. but imagine if there is absolutely no gurantee for longevity what’s the point of accessing the web from anywhere in the world. you aren’t sure if the info that you search for it still available.
each one believes in one feature. I am able to agree with both sujatha and you here.

Interesting point Sujatha makes here…
I for one, have been getting a lot of my daily dose of news and views from these blogs the world over.
With such a huge thrust on blogs and bloggers worldwide, what with all the “independent thoughts” to back them up, is there a chance that blogs might give mainstream print media a run for its money, even if not annihilate it totally from the face of the earth??? at some point of time in the future???

One more note: There is a cool book out called “A place to live” edited by Dilip Kumar. This book has neat translations of short stories by a good selection of Tamil writers incl. Sujatha, Jayakanthan, Puthumai Pitthan… etc etc. A good choice for Tamil people who can’t read tamil (no, no not me) or for people who wan’t show their friends what Tamil society & literature are like.

I have a convern and i am not able to view tamil fonts from vikadan.com eevnthough i downloaded the font.
Second..what happend 2 days leavea? think of the regular blog readers and definitely they will be disappointed. pls make sure to add atleast a column per day in the following days. Can write few columns in the weekends and we will appreciate that.
