Gautam upset with Vijay

In a recent interview to Ananda Vikatan, Gautam Menon talks about Vaaranam Aayiram in length. Vaaranam Aaayiram is rumored to have the storyline of Forrest Gump. This is Oscar Ravichandran’s second big movie of the year after Kamal’s Dasavatharam. The movie’s website is almost ready to go.

Gautam’s calls Vaaranm Aayiram as a man’s saga and he is appreciative of Surya’s effort in the film. The interview doesn’t end there. When the interviewer asks if he is Surya’s director, Gautam blasts kollywood heroes for dicatating terms to directors. He accepts that Sarathkumar in Pachaikilli Muthucharam was a bad choice.

This is what he has to say about Vijay –

இன்னும் சில ஹீரோக்கள் பொழுதுபோகலைன்னா கதை கேட்கக் கூப்பிடுறாங்க. நான் கதை சொல்லி முடிச்சதும், அவங்க எதிர்பார்ப்பு நான் சொன்ன கதைக்கு எதிர்திசையில் இருக்கு. விஜய்கிட்டே கதை சொல்லப்போனேன். அவ்வளவு அமைதியாக, எந்த எதிர்க் கேள்வியும் இல்லாம கதை கேட்டார். சொல்லி முடிச்சதும் ‘அருமையா இருக்கு. உங்களோட வேலை பார்க்கிறதில் ஆர்வமா இருக்கேன். இந்த டிவிடிக்களைப் பாருங்க. இதில் உள்ள கமர்ஷியல் அம்சங்களை உங்க கதையில் கண்டிப்பா சேருங்க’னு அவர் கொடுத்த டிவிடிக்களை வெளியே வந்து பார்த்தேன். ‘திருப்பாச்சி’, ‘சிவகாசி’ டிவிடிதான் அது. என்னத்தைச் சொல்ல..!

BTW, Gautam’s next film is with Ajith. Should that say something about this comment ?

    though I am a Vijay Fan and its a fact that Gautham rips off most of his movies from Hollywood, if this DVD givin thing (tht too Sivakasi/Thirupachi) to Gautham is true then Vijay needs to get his head examined. Appreciate his growth to the top without any big directors involved, but this is the right time for him to get some movies with dir’s like Gautham/Ameer/Selva/Bala etc. On the flip side, any hero talks to a director asking to add in commercial stuff, Gautham adha public panra alavukku enna nadandhudho. Gounder dialogue thaan – cinema vula idhellaam saadharanamappa

    infact i felt, sarath was the right choice for Patchai kili muthu charam.. and he did underplay it prety descent enough.. what do you say ?! 😉

    Yathirigan, You are right. I thought Sarath was a perfect fit. Gautam says, he wanted to ahve cheran play that role. I can’t even think of that nightmare.

    I am neither a Vijay fan nor am i enamoured of Gautham’s “directorial” abilities. However, of late I find that Gautham has become fairly outspoken. Similar to his comments about Vijay, he has openly expressed his “dismay” at Vikram’s judgment in accepting a movie like Bheema recently. All this indicates only one thing – Gautham is not going to go far in Tamil filmdom if he continues to express his views about actors openly – which is fine with me as I don’t think the industry will be worse off without him.

    Vijay has always been unapologetic on doing Masala films. If Gautam wants an actor and not a star he must not have met Vijay at all.

    I don’t understand what is so great about Sivakasi and Thirupachi, that Vijay is so proud of, and wants to emulate the same stuff in all his movies.. Those were some of his pathetic movies… No wonder, none of the high profile directors want to cast him in their movies.

    Vijay nallavara kettavara ngrathu vaera kathai…aana intha gautam menon pathi ennatha solla.over eh thaan paesikitu thiriyaran. mind this was the guy who wouldn’t budge his ego even with a class actor like kamalhassan..no worries having an attitude.but every man’s definition about success and good films are different and it’s for sure that his films are not the best of the kinds. What stopped him from returning the DVD at the same spot to vijay and say to him that “sorry boss, ithu sari pattu varathu”…ennamo avan thanga petti leh vechi DVD eh kudutha maariyum atheh avaru ezhu kadal thaandi poyi saami munnadi vechi open panni paarthu sivakasi um thirupachi um irunthu, atheh paarthu narayana nu ulahathukku solluraaan…ellamae publicity thaaan…the problem here is not understanding the difference between being outspoken and being a n unruly spoken kind…one should also mind the way he had questioned sankar’s risk appetite by asking once in the sme magazine as to something like why does he put so many peoples life at stake with a movie like shivaji. He is clearly the most over rated director .

    Well,what Vijay did was a big mistake.He should have given him hollywood DVD’s instead of Tamil ones.LOL.But hey,is there any Hollywood DVD that GM doesnt have.All his movies are ripped from them.GM has been talking too much.He had even critisized Shankar for Shivaji budget.Cinema is a business were all these things do happen and they all stay under the carpets.By bringing things out in open,GM does more harm to himself than to Vijay.Even a child knows what to expect from Vijay movie.Why did GM go there at the first place.

    well Goutham predominantly lives through English DVDs, may be bad that Vijay gave him a Tamil DVD.. See when directors, want the actor to observe the behavious of a blind person, when the actor plays a Blind Hero, whats wrong in a 6+ crore salary(next only to Rajini and Kamal) actor in Tamil Cinema, telling the director, what commercial elements he expects to have in his projects. Is this wrong?!?! Everyone has to live mutually in this world. If GM wants to do a KK or VV, so be it, if Vijay wants to do a Tirupachi(the biggest commercial hit in his career, till date) or Sivakasi, so be it.. If they dont want budge an inch from their way of movie making, so be it.. but GM spits a private conversation out to public, this shows how cheap his character is?!?!?! GM is nothing but an overated 3 movie wonder, while Vijay is a 46+ movie Superstar in TN. GM keeps speaking out against top actors/technicians whoever he doesnt have a good relationship with!! How cheap that he says, his biggest mistake was casting Sharath Kumar. He cannot accept the basic fact that Pacchaikili Muthucharam, was a disaster at the box office..

    Ya, maybe GM made a mistake going public. But, Vijay needs to grow up too.. He needs to learn from people like Rajni and Kamal, and know the secret of their growth in the industry. If he continues to act in pathetic masala movies like Sivakasi and Thirupachi, he will get stagnant. He doesn’t realise it now, but gradually he will.

    Rajni was at a peak of his career when he worked in Dalapathi with MR. He was in a position to tell MR to add all the usual Rajni ingredients into the movie like his style, punch dialogues etc, just to satisfy his fans. But being a professional he is, he just acted the way MR wanted, without any style or any punch dialogs. Just acting. And don’t we love the movie. So, the point is, when Vijay gets a chance to be different, with a director, who has the potential to make a good movie, he should accept it without making any noise.

    The things that are to be said here are..
    1. Vijay is the most overrated actor in tamil cinema. He has yet to prove his acting skills (role like kamals salangai oli, suryas nanda or vikrams sethu).Rajini proved he can act tremendously thats why balachander cast him in his movies and also maniratnam cast him.None of todays directors want to cast vijay because of his masala terms!.
    I really think he needs to do a role like paruthiveeran and start trusting accomplished directors they probably know maore bout cinema than him.
    2. Gautham Menon has proved his mettle by making his first three movies blockbusters but i do think he needs to exersize restraint, not completely but to some extent tone it down maybe….
    Personally like ppl who call it as they see it.

    i happened to see all ur comments… its really interesting.
    its known to everybody that vijay is a pakka commercial hero from his debut. Gowtham known for his Down to Earth thrillers.
    these two persons are pole apart.
    there is no clear cut definition of success in cinema.both these men are really successful in their career.there is a period when no directors, no heroines are ready to work with rajni.
    but one thing is for sure. vijay has to improve his roles, try out different characters and gowtham has to speak more with victories than with such controversial speaches. his comment on sarath is really too much and is not healthy.

    vijay knows only to dance nothing else is there.he cant able to do versatile role. so better good director keep away from vijay.kamals mundram pirai, ajiths godfather(dancer),suryas nandha,vikrams pidhamagan are all the most versatile films.like this nobody can quate a films for vijay anybody else is there ?.starting from thirumalai till today the same kind of movie he is acting.vijay is ___________ thats it.universal hero and thala r the real mass and class heroes

    Gautham Menon is silly to make a comment in public about this DVD issue!!! I say it’s really silly. Who bothers man? What is gautham proving to the world? That he is more creative and a great director. I don’t give a damn about his movies a count of 4 movies so far???? And every movie is inspired by some English movies. Ofcourse I enjoyed his movies , I liked it and still consider kakka kakka has one of the best cop movie tamil cinema has ever seen . I haven’t watched thirupachi, sivakasi may be a glimpse of it when my room mates play in our sitting room. Come on man give me a break (I am 26 years old I am matured enough not to talk out things which were spoken within 4 walls. I would understand it is his way of dealing with cinema and I would say to myself its not my way to be flexible with him so let me carry on with my stuff rather that blaming him or others) you can’t talk non-sense in public about another person. Its not fair. He has no right to comment on vijay’s ideas and his goals. He has his own ideals and behaviours and if you don’t like just shutup and carry on with your own business with directing younger people. Why the hell do u bother to make a public statement. Don’t you think vijay can easily give a public statement but he will not do it you know why? Because he is not silly
    If vijay doesn’t act good movies, decent movies and it flops who bothers again either he may fight back in acting good movies??? Or he may loose hope 9Like what prashanth is doing right now). May be try gautham menon should try when vijay looses hope in sustaining his competence in Tamil cinema with his commercial movies or so called masala.     Alright (You all know the hero called “Prashanth” (jeans, thiruda thiruda) lover boy how many of them are talking about him now- nobody not a single person a director or a producer would be ready to direct or produce him you know why coz his market is down) why not gautham be a rescuer and give him a break.) he is a directors hero try it out Mr.gautham menon probably he will sign papers easily as he is free with his call sheets!!     wait guys and gals.i m also a cinema fan and vijay tooo.he is really genius.because his most of his film logically meaningless but cover such a things with entertainment.cinema is just entertainment.i think u know gowtham is most rated director.but most of his film , all of his film cant under stand by villagers.neenga solluvinga avanga kaatan’nu but engalukkum pudikira madhiri padam edukurathla thaan oru director therama irukku.i m also village guy.there is no problem on vijay its all on his father.he only forced him to do such film.he only forced him do politics.mudhalvan script is written on the mind of vijay by shanker.which later done by arjun.like this most of films rae missen.later he done film(madhura) with madhesh who is co writer and co producer of mudhalvan.i m totally agree with s.a.chandrasekaran sir and too love my vijay anna.evan edhu sonnaalum naanga eppavum ungaloodu iruppoom.thairiyama nadinga annaaaaaa.

    if gautham was so much upset with vijay ‘s action action of asking the veteran (as mentioned in article) director to copy/learn scenes from actor’s earlier movies .. in such a case i have a question to gautham if you are so talented and you feel ashamed of copying why do you copied the english movie ‘Derailed’ and released it as pachaikilli muthucharam in tamil..
