Apologize me to copy the tag-line of Shankar’s Anniyan. The original tagline goes like this- He who comes from hell is not afraid of hot ashes. The red tint in the promos and the teaser gives an eerie look to the movie. But the black devilish coat of Vikram and the long axe in his hand are similar to the killer costume of the film I know what you did last summer and is misleading many to think that Anniyan is a remake of this English thriller.
As the news reports say Anniyan is renamed title of Robot. It was originally proposed to star Kamalhassan and was supposed to be shot for 2 years. Since Kamal later dropped off from the project because of the long shoot time. Two years would be costly time for any star to work in one project. It is said that Shankar changed the name and a little bit of story to shorten the production schedule.
But for Vikram this is the longest running call sheet ever. In his interview he remarked that he has allocated more than 100 days continuously for Anniyan. With Shankar roping Harris Jayaraj in place of A R Rahman, the music industry and the fans are out to see how Harris Jayaraj fills the Rahman vacuum in a Shankar film.
Ever since I saw Atharmam (the film by film institute students starring Murali and Nasser on the life of Veerappan), I was sure that Manikandan’s camera eye would be rewarded. Here is his biggest break to work with Shankar on a movie with a different feel. I am sure Manikandan would be among the top cinematographers list after Shankar’s Anniyan.
Writer Sujatha is back with his dialogues after his street smart, controversial dialogues in Boys. But ‘Jeyam’ Sada as the heroine makes me a little curious about her role. Probably she has a good role to play.
As Sujatha remarks in Katrathum Petrathum, Shankar’s Anniyan should be out for the coming Diwali. We all have a curious diwali ahead to celebrate with Anniyan.

Still OSCAR FILMS is finding it difficult to sell the film to overseas distributors.
The primary International Tamil Film Distributor based in the UK, Ayngaran International has refused to buy and distribute the movie due to extremely high price. Turn over of most of the High Budget Indian films depends on the screening in Europe, America, Middle East Asia and Australia as the ticket prices are high. Shankar’s last film Boys was a flop in Tamil Nadu. (It is true that it was a huge hit in Sri Lanka. But Sri Lanka doesnt have a big movie market to have huge returns.) This could be one of the reasons for Ayngaran International to take a risk with his new movie ANNIYAN. Shankar is an out standing director in the Tamil Film Industry. But it doesn’t give an assurance that all his films will be block buster hits. The new concept in Narrow Market Film Markets is to invest less and have high percentage of returns. Rajinis Chandramuki was made just with US$ 150,000 (Six Crows Indian Rupees) and the return was five times. The producer was very intelligent. A one year full of work, US$ 900,000 investment and if the profit is going to be as little as 10% would be a real loss for the producer. Tamil Film makers should be encouraged with Low budget high return films. If Tamil Film makers really want to do high budget films, they should follow the business concepts of Honk Kong Film Makers where they find huge markets in the US with their high budget films. Tamil Film Producers should learn a bit more about business and think realistically.
Now Oscar Films trying to sell the film directly to the distributors in the prospective countries after the dispute they had with Ayngaran International due to the sales of ANNIYAN. If they fail to sell directly, ANNIYAN’s release will be delayed and also it can become a financial flop.
Guys at Ayngaran International hope that V Ravichandran, the producer of the movie will reduce the selling price of the overseas rights and come to a negotiation with them. Otherwise this scenario will become a big threat to Tamil Films marketed overseas.

Anniyan will punish the following soon.
1.Directors who give over build-up about their films and make films far below the expectations.
2.Directors who cheat the audience by saying that they have made a high budget film.
3.Directors who make their Producers, beggars by wasting their money on unnecessary things such as painting a whole village.
4.Directors who make film without logics.
5.Directors who believe that they can always cheat Tamil audiences.
6.Directors who make a remix out of their own old films.
7.Directors who make the people watch their movie by cutting lectures, not going to their office and wasting a full day waiting in a queue to watch a two and a half hour movie. These kinds of acts lead to unproductively and the respective country will never be developed like Malaysia and Singapore.
Anniyan will do “Kirumi Bojanam” very soon for the directors who didn’t give enough “Bojanam” to his audiences. He doesn’t like suppliers who don’t care about customer satisfaction.

Anniyan was well worth the hype. Well, it is in many ways quite similar to his earlier ventures like Gentleman and Indian, where one man tries to bring about a change to the society. But is an absolute entertainer, this.
It is a FICTIONAL THRILLER, as described by Shankar himself. So it is not fair to expect logics in the storyline.
This is a clean family entertainer catering mainly to Tamil audiences in Tamilnadu. Songs have been shot like never before in Tamil movies. If you thought “Boys” songs were choreographed brilliantly then watch Anniyan to be absolutely thrilled. It is a feast, especially “Kumari” and “Andan Kaka” and the other three songs are not far behind as well. Well, the fights are over-done, again you have to give credit to Shankar becos he has done it keeping audiences of Tamilnadu in mind and may be a big put-off for Tamil guys living overseas, who watch plenty of English flicks.
People could easily say that technology used here is a cheap imitation of hollywood flicks, but then someone has to try it to set standards for others to emulate and perhaps out do Shankar himself. This is absolutely a must watch in THEATRES.

Anniyan was worth the wait…. Superb Camera work, superb acting by all including Prakash Raj, and Vikram and Sada….. Vivek Comedy is at its best and Shanker…… does he has to prove himself any better….. Shanker has provided our eyes and ears with a feast…. All the songs are superb….. hats off to Harris Jeyaraj…. One would think if AR. Rehman could have out preformed him.. Kannum Kannum Nokia was a treat like all the songs…. the picturization was well done…. What more can i say…… i hope this movie does well at the box office and gain Cheeyan , Shanker, Sada, Harris Jeyaraj and the other cast fame and glory….. I dont think Vikram or anyone else would get an chance to act in an movie as great as this…..

i agree that anniyan is a bad movie. but vikram is better actor than kamal in a number of ways.
Anbe sivam was a flop because the movie was made with an intention of making a flop movie. god who will sit and watch a movie which says that “love is god” for 3 hours. stupid storyline & kindergarden dialogues.
In anbe sivam after a bus accident , kamal personality changes suddenly in the movies to prove his pancake makeup acting.
he is seen wearing a poor man’s dress and “soda buddi” glass. Plastic surgery can be done for Rs.10,000 nowadays. Stupid lousy movie.
An actor who talks about world cinema more than any actor, but makes at least 4 comedy movies a year with stupid crazy mohan verbal “kaadies” and releases the movie run in some stupid theatre like kasi for 25 days. thatz kamal.

Kamal got intially introduced to tamil audience as romantic hero.In fact he was good at it and i myself have seen (still see in CD’s) many of his movies late 70’s-early 80’s. Particularly kamal – rajini combo movies are a treat to watch.
Later when tamil cinema moved from simple budget to big budget, Kamal acted in commercial masala flicks in 80’s-90’s. Though he was initially sucessful n commercial cinema, he could not hold on to it for a longer period . In fact , rajini occupied some much space that there was nothing left for other actors.
Continously one after another , kamal movies started performing badly. He was in fact rejected by the tamil audience in commercial cinema as his perso did not match the angry young man body language. Producers did not want to do big budget commercial movies with kamal and AVM totally stopped making movies when some of their last produced movies acted by kamal were mere washouts and they lost heavly.
Kamal took a twist maybe late 80’s and starting acting in movies by applying pancake makeups.
(laugh that suddenly he learnt acting)
His first movie in this series is apoorva sago…… then guna,then blah blah …etc etc.
Most of his serious movies had some or other pancake makeups. Thiz is what i dont consider a acting. But i appreciate him that he was sucessful to certain extent in convincing his fans general film going public that what he does is acting. thatz where i beg to differ.
In Indian, guna, apoorva sago.., avvai shanmu…,hey ram, anbe sivam etc what kamal does is body language histronics and not acting.
(nayagan is an exception and is a mix of both)
In fact what vikram has done in anniyan is also the same and not acting. Tell me one scene in “Indian” where kamal has really acted?
Even u and me when applied “indian” makeup on us, we shall look like some old man.
There is nothing great thing about it.
The only requirement when doing these
type of roles require is that a person should be in good shape. So Kamal, rajini, Sarath ,vikram etc , anybody in good shape can don these type of pancake makeup roles. Any tom, dick and harry can do it.
In fact vikram in kasi ,pithamagan had lived up to the role and was stupendous . I wonder whether kamal can do justice to these type of role .
Even in 80’s when kamal was just hanging on to commercial cinema, rajini did some old man roles like netrikaan, 6 to 60, engeeyo keeytta. … etc and did justice to the roles. kamal did kaadal meengal and made a mockery out of it.
Watch kasi & raja parvai and then u can understand what is acting.

I agree that “Anniyan” is an utter masala but hey who is it targetting? The Tamil mass of Tamilnadu. Agree the fight scenes were overdone and would be a real put off to guys who graze on hollywood flicks but how many in Tamilnadu watch Hollywood crap. In this sense Shankar is a legend in his own right cos he makes it a point to make movies for the common man in Tamilnadu and purely entertain them. Add some social message and it keeps the movie goer going.
Has songs been choreographed any better? Only his own “Boys” would match this audacity in choreography.
Just to touch on what Mani had stated earlier. I too notice that some people say stuff like How dumb Tamil audiences are when Kamal and Mani Ratnam’s movie fail. Should Tamil people prove their intelligence by making Kamal’s or Ratnam’s movies hit??

Dun look for logics when watching a movie…becos its a movie…not life…so just watch a movie with 1st thought…if u try to give it a 2nd thought or analyze it, this is wat u get. Simply speaking, the movie is just cool. Look at hollywood movies…they r not logical either…they also have alot of graphics…much of the act is not even done by the actors in hollywood…But I believe indian movies are skill based…So i would award Anniyan: 1000/100!!!

Kamal Hassan is a great actor..but i believe anyone who is given a chance can act up to his standards. Good actors are said to be good coz they r given Good movies to act in. Let not put down Anniyan. At least its different from the everyday tamil movie. At least tamil movies are evolving now…Give them ur support. Alot of effort from both the crew and actors has been put to make Anniyan…Pls dun bring personal thoughts and grudges to put the movie down. What a world! People never get satisfied!

Most people i’ve heard of..liked Anniyan very much. Well , unlike special people like yeh, most people these days watch movie for the action not for the logic or whatever. I dont like movies like ‘moondram pirai’, besides i havent even watched it yet…I havent even borned yet when it was released. Well, i would like to remind that time is changing, so is the taste of the people. If u r watching a movie for moral education than u have wasted ur time. Coz i can ask my baby brother for moral values and learn for him. Its unfair to compare Kamal with Vikram…coz look at the experience gap between them. I bet after like 10yrs vikram will be better than Kamal. Like i’ve told u, Good actors are considered Good becos they r given a chance to act in a Good movie. If a lousy actor gets to act in Anniyan, and if he acts it fairly well, the next second he will be famous. Its the movie that counts, not really the actor…thx…
People are moving forward, trying to think of new ideas…and yet u guys are hugging the past and denying to face the future. Yester it was lousy movies, and today its getting better in its quality. So u have just give them time by giving ur support. Well, when did tamil movies had logic in their fighting? Not only Anniyan, starting from the 80s till now, there is never logic in the action part of indian movies. So blaming Anniyan is not gonna solve this problem. As technology gets better, the fighting parts also get more illogical. Even many of kamals movies r illogical, especially those fighting parts. So no more fights, stay cool, those who expect big from tamil movies i can give u 2 ideas. 1st: become a director and direct Anniyan (part 2) N prove urself. 2nd: Dont watch tamil movies. Well matrix can justify why keanu could do all those stunts…but the story, in overall, is crap!

I am from Malaysia (Penang). I really think this movie gives a good message to people. Actor Vikram’s talent was shown throughout the movie. I realy feel he should get awards for his acting. The character REMO was fantastic. As a mother of two small kids, I really appreciated it. ( It reminds me of my College life)The movie was entertaining. Thanks.

ok lets take the first scene… when the names are going on, there was no purticular special introduction to ambi as other tamil movies. tht it self was amazing. he’s facial expression was fantastic for the character of ambi.. i can’t even think how u said tht kamal hassan would be ideal for such a role, cos he’s last film mumbai Xpress was a meaningless mega flop here in sri lanka.. infact it didn’t get a cinema here in sri lanka.. was running in an auditorium…
then next, to the character remo.. how does he become remo or why another character who’s a facinating vikram is the next question everyone was thirlled about next..

u knew tht anniyan was started to film 1 yr back right… did u ever think of such a story..
why did he put the tagline of the film as “HE WHO COMES FROM HELL IS NOT AFRAID OF THE HOT ASHES”
it’s yama… why was he with a black robe… he looked as if he’s a punisher… and yes he was.. but someone very unusual… ususally in a film u get a villain guy who does something in the start of the film & the guy gets big & take the revenge out of him…. i don’t see tht shankar has taken tht same route.. which has made him raise the bar heigher

ok lets take the first scene… when the names are going on, there was no purticular special introduction to ambi as other tamil movies. tht it self was amazing. he’s facial expression was fantastic for the character of ambi.. i can’t even think how u said tht kamal hassan would be ideal for such a role, cos he’s last film mumbai Xpress was a meaningless mega flop here in sri lanka.. infact it didn’t get a cinema here in sri lanka.. was running in an auditorium…
then next, to the character remo.. how does he become remo or why another character who’s a facinating vikram is the next question everyone was thirlled about next..
this is a film…. how does he get money to do this and tht is a part of it.
what really annoys me is tht if an english guy does it everyone’s thrilled, but something even more facinating is done here by shankar, and a section of people who doesn’t get the base point starts to scream.. if this movie flops in india, i blame guys like u (Vijay)…
u know onething.. i don’t know how many of u guys realized it, even though; in the KATHAL YANAI song people like to see vikram(remo) more than yana guptha. even though she tries to attract u towards her.. but u tend to see remo more coz every purticular scene is a different get up alto geather….

Anniyan is the best movie i have ever seen it is surley going to be number 1. Vikram you are going to get many oscars for this movie i guarentee it. For sure vikram Anniyan is going to be in Kollywood box office no worrys about that with amounts of oscar awards for this movie. You’ll definetly be top hero of this year and hopefully other years too and you will recapture your fame from this film.I saw this movie in theatres and it is amazing it is the best movie of all time and vikram was great in the movie. Songs were very good all 5 star and the actors are all wicked it is so good oh mi god i can keep watching this movie everyday it is that good. ~I Love U vikram~ u aere awesome and thee best u are my favourite and u were great in anniyan i have also posted messages at anniyan.com omg this movie is really good and is going to be number 1

anniyan was a mind blowing movie. it was super and i went to the teater 2 times just to watch anniyan.i am willing to watch the movie again and again because it is a marvellous movie ever i seen.i am sure this movie is going to win a oscar award anfd it is going to be come a blockbuster hit that chanramukhi.

One of the most illogical movie in a long time. By the way in some scenes Vikram looks older than Nedumudi venu! We should give “anda koobam” to Shankar to have Vikram talk in that fake accent which drove me nuts. Voice and dialogue delivery is vital for an actor. That is why i like people like Prakash raj, Raguvaran. As far as heroes are concerned as a farmer ‘surya hater’ i tell, currently surya has a better voice modulation than vikram.to be continued!

How can you possibly like the portrayal of ambi and Remo by Vikram. There are 1000s of logical flaws in the movie. You don’t like someone in coffee shop kill him !! What a message!! Vikram looks older than Nedumudi venu. I think people get carried away with his multiple personality disorder role! It is utterly mediocre. He did a screw up job atleast in two of the roles. Only role that suited him was the Anniyan role which was pathetic as well. Lot of comical scenes like Prakash Raj and Vivek coming in weird getups! Why would they not come in police uniform! It is a mystery remains to be unsolved! Vikram looks hideous in Remo role! Worst of all even a girl with an IQ of 10 would be able to identitify Remo looks like Ambi! How can she possibly not see the resemblance is beyond belief! People who appreciate craps like this have never seen a real movie i must say! I saw “RAM”. Execution of that movie was brilliant. You don’t need 28 crores to make a movie like this!
